No-see-ums - Their Biology and Control
Biting midges (Culicoides sp.) are small, sometimes
barely-visible, blood-sucking flies more commonly known in many
areas as biting gnats, sand flies, biting midges, punkies or
'no-see-ums'. Their biting activity is extremely annoying, and
it can have a deleterious effect on the economy of some coastal
areas by discouraging tourism. Descriptive illustrations, and
concise biology and control methods using both screen mesh and
repellents is discussed. (one page article)
